What makes a good-quality umbrella that lasts?
A sturdy frame, wind-resistant ribs, waterproof fabric, and reinforced stitching.
How do I choose between a compact umbrella and a full-size umbrella?
Compact is for portability; full-size offers better coverage and durability.
Are clear umbrellas strong enough for everyday use or just for looks?
High-quality clear POE umbrellas are both stylish and durable.
What does “wind-resistant umbrella” actually mean?
It’s designed with flexible ribs that bend without breaking in strong winds. Remember - point the top tip into the wind, to protect you and the umbrella
How should I clean and maintain my umbrella?
Collapse the canopy and allow to dry completely (for 24-48 hours) before folding away in a dry and cool place - do not store under or between items to avoid compression. Excess heat may damage handles.
Do umbrellas provide UV or sun protection as well as rain coverage?
La Bella umbrellas are treated with flurine-free UPF50+ waterproofing for rain and sun protection.
What’s the difference between pongee, polyester, and POE umbrella fabrics?
Pongee = premium, polyester = standard, POE = clear and flexible.
How long should a well-made umbrella last with regular use?
Anywhere from 3–10 years depending on quality and care. We've had customers who want repairs on 50+ year old umbrellas. We offer a 12-24 month frame warranty on most umbrellas.
Are wooden handles stronger than plastic ones?
Choosing between these handle types is purely aesthetic and a personal choice. Wooden handles are durable and timeless, while plastic is lighter and modern.
Can umbrellas be recycled?
Yes, but parts must be separated — metal, fabric, and plastic often need sorting.
What’s the best umbrella size for everyday use?
Around 100–120 cm canopy for one person; 120–140 cm for two. For travel, anything smaller this will keep you covered and fit in your bag.
Why do some umbrellas flip inside out in strong winds?
Weak frames or poor design can’t handle gusts over 40 km/h. To avoid this, angle your umbrella top into the wind (this will protect you the best from wind and rain).
Is it worth paying more for a premium umbrella?
Yes, in general - better materials mean fewer replacements and long-term savings. At La Bella we pride ourselves on quality, so all of our umbrellas from budget to premium have more features than all priced competetors globally.
What features should I look for in a high-quality umbrella?
Strong ribs, waterproof and UFP treated canopy, and a sturdy handle.
Can umbrellas protect against lightning?
No - always seek shelter indoors and avoid umbrellas in thunderstorms where a lightning strike is a possibility.
Are automatic umbrellas better than manual ones?
It's a personal preference. Automatic offers convenience and a show-stopper opportunity when used in choreography; manual are generally safer around children, pets and eyes.
What’s the lightest umbrella material?
Aluminium and fibreglass frames are strong yet lightweight.
Do bigger umbrellas always provide better coverage?
Not always—size helps, but shape and canopy depth matter too. For example, our dome (birdcage) umbrellas protect the largest amount of wind and rain from all sides simultaneously whilst also facilitating visibility.
Do I really need umbrellas for my wedding?
If your wedding is outdoors, umbrellas offer protection and peace of mind in all weather.
How many umbrellas should I have for guests?
One umbrella can be used for up to 2 guests and is usually sufficient for shared use.

Should the brides and / or grooms have different umbrellas from guests?
Umbrellas that are personalised or matching their wedding dress / suit may help them to stand out, but it is a personal preference and isn't necessary.
What colours work best for wedding umbrellas?
White, black and transparent are classic; however we offer many more colours to match themed weddings.

High-quality clear umbrellas allow light through, keeping photos bright. However, your photographer will be able to position you best so that whatever umbrellas you choose work best in your photos.
